TP HHH RUN No. 1574 (21-09-2009)

THREE EARS’ BIRTHDAY BASH

The run-site was at the Kulai Foon Yew car-park and despite the Raya holidays many turned up; there were a number of Hazardians who came to support their Grand Hazard and there were also a few from GP as the run-site is within their domain. The pre-run takraw game was ably helmed by a passing jogger who proved to be very adept in his native pastime until the bad kickers frustrated him away.

THREE EARS and his co-hare AJINOMOTO admonished us to adhere strictly to our branded paper and the yellow strips as there is a profusion of other brands within. The Hare beckoned us to start straight down the tarmac but yet nincompoops like Ikan Hantu and Watermelon ran onto the home reds! Instead of the usual beginning by the mill, the in-trail took the path parallel to the water-tower area where we used to run before; this was a new twist to an old tale. The First Check was easily broken by Kong Cake of GP; in fact for that matter all the four checks were a piece of (Kong) Cake! Along the semi-tarred track the paper brought us to the deep interior of the palm estate and veered 11 o’clock to cross a small stream. Check No. 2 shortly thereafter was on a straight road and there being not much options, the connection was easily linked by Wide Kunt. Paper then made the inevitable crossing of the tunnel near the fencing; to the left was the road to the mill, but the paper-followers went on for another two more checks on yonder side. Who broke these two checks confounded the scribe as the FROPs were too speedy. One, I was told, was broken by Bamboo Snake and the other by MC. Whatever or whoever doesn’t matter because the hubbub of the highway traffic provided a clear indication for us to zero in on the home trail. Indeed after a sturdy romp over two small hills the paper came to the highway fencing and crossed the other tunnel that led to the oil-mill and home was just a click away. The first home expectedly was the Speedy Serpent and the last was late-starter Jag. It was a commendable run of about 10 km and the terrain was a bit varied tough not new.

CIRCLE was presided over by JM Handsome as the GM has gone to Putrajaya for PM’s open- house; the Bouncer Lap Cheong fired the first shot at the acting (just testing!). After some brief announcements, the Hares placed their fat bottoms on the ice and the circus show began. Slip Soul from the Hazards being a first timer in TP sat for the round of handshakes and immediately proclaimed his intention to join us every Monday! The Batu Api did a very short job catching only a handful; the false starters, the Yong Tau-foo con job and the glutton who was conned, the idiots who tussled over a packet of kuah-chee and the mask vendor and buyer were all duly iced for their capers. The Mystery Whip Bangla only netted two unwitting bastards who were unfortunate to walk with him! The floor was rather subdued and the acting has to arbitrarily appoint floor-takers! IFoksoon gave an Academy Award-winning performance of a Thai song and a Hindi frolicking jig complete with floor-rolling!

Circle was over early and we re-assembled at De Fortune for the grand banquet; there was indeed much merriment coupled with good food and cold beer! The Hare declared the do FOC and Paikia was on hand to give him the original one-liner Birthday song. Thanks and Many Happy Returns!

THE FUNCTION MAN’S DYSFUNCTIONAL RUN!

Our Function Man YOGI’s appearance in TP is as rare as sighting the dodo; but he did answer to the call of duty to lay his run. Together with a platoon of co-hares, UNCLE LUBBER, BAMBOO SNAKE, AJINOMOTO and BLURR, he laid a scorching trail in IMPIAN EMAS that even out-stripped Doc Soob’s mini-marathon last week!

More than half the pack got wind of the impending tribulations ahead from some insider- whispers and thus cleverly curtailed their run. A quartet from Sekudai Hash, who is familiar with this backyard of theirs, led the SCBs out safely. The rest of us went n for a 15 km sojourn of Ladangs Sekudai, Amber and Senai! The Hare innocently announced that there were only three checks, but they were miles apart!

The First Check after the tunnel was broken by Watermelon and this melon-head led us all the way until we crossed the gas-pipe. Any normal trail in this estate would have rounded back after this pipe; but this was an abnormal trail! It penetrated further into the interior of Amber Estate until we almost hit Doc Soob’s paper! The Second Check was found by Jag after a long while, and the paper still didn’t look like it was leading us back; we were still probing in unfamiliar country. When finally it began to curve back to the audible sounds of the Highway traffic, it was getting bloody dark.

To make matters worse the FROPs ran off without a whimper leaving the back-markers gasping for breath far behind; this was more pronounced in the Third Check which was cracked by IFoksoon; the sounds of the traffic was a good indication to him where to forage for the connection. In the dusk Ninja reappeared out of the blue and raced home without surrendering the lead. After we heard the Highway traffic, the end was still some 5 clicks away! Instead of the usual way home near the fencing, the sadistic Hare took us for a grand tour of the veggie farms and rounded at least three more hills before we finally hit the wide tunnel! To the right after the tunnel we literally had to grope our way to the bush-crawl that led us to the rails.

Back at Paikia’s Wagon, all kinds of expletives were hailed at the Hares for trying to kill us! Only Doc Soob commended him for the effort just to placate his own folly last week! The last stragglers ambled home way past 8! And so Circle was called late; but it nevertheless didn’t lose its sting. Samsu, the Mystery Batu Api, gave a 5-Star performance going for the jugular of the unfortunate souls who walked and misled him; De Pest, expectedly led the ‘Tambah Squad’ to add more spices to the main dish. A good phenomenon is the contagion of Tambahism; once it got started, everyone spontaneously jumped onto the bandwagon and woe-betide the asses on ice! GM curtailed the kangaroo-court well past 9 and we took a short drive to 63 for the second consecutive week. There were plenty of booze and grub with Birthday Old Cock Sissy throwing in a carton for good measure. The whole do was then declared FOC and we sang the Hare our traditional gratitude. NANDRI, YOGI.

HIGHLY-NUMBED BY THE RUN!
